What we gain by looking at an individual in the context of their family system with Yildiz Sethi

Most of us are trained to focus on the individual. Create trust and rapport and come to an understanding of how they feel, think and behave and how they perceive themselves, others and make meaning. Through listening to their story with counselling skills such as reflecting, validating and challenging, the theory is often that the story may change or evolve, as they may find new perspectives or better solutions.  This was my training too

But what if the story is toxic?

How many of us have found clients who don’t progress through this methodology? Their story doesn’t seem to mellow or evolve and remain embittered, angry and frustrated? Stuck.

Alternatively, what effect if any, does looking at an individual problematic story, through the context of their family system have on the therapeutic process and outcome?

Gaining an understanding or experience of their primal bonding to significant others and the energies they were born into of, culture, family events, triumphs, tragedies and trauma.

How would it be to be able to assist them with their toxic stories from this place?

I present how working systemically can improve client outcomes.

Since 2005 I have been working systemically. This has been a radical change for myself and my clients.

We will look at some common dynamics that individuals hold and their effects on mental health, relationships, family and children, in the context of family systems.

I am going to present the value of working systemically, in viewing client’s in the context of their family system and working both phenomenologically and experientially to highlight and process emotions and generational patterns and trauma towards better mental health.
